There are A LOT of sales happening right now, with one of the most famous ones being the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. If I'm being honest, I found the sale to be underwhelming. I've seen all of the top influencers covering the sale and a lot of the merchandise looks like things I've seen before.

When choosing to cover the sale, I decided to focus my attention on the three categories that I think are some of the best items to shop when shopping any sale - shoes, accessories and outerwear. I also think denim is a great item to pick up during a sale, but I focused my attention on the aforementioned categories.

Why these?

Outerwear and shoes are higher ticket items and are things that people reach for season over season. Picking up a wardrobe staple at a discount feels like a real win versus some top you got for cheap and will wear once. This is a great time to invest in leathers and wool. A quality coat sets the tone for the rest of your look and is the first thing people see. Coats are also the most under represented item I see when in a closet edit.
When looking at the accessories, I focused my attention on belts and handbags for the same reason as shoes and coats - these are key pieces you can style season over season. Accessories are so often overlooked and are things I recommend collecting as they are the easiest way to transform an outfit.

And while I don't think you NEED to shop the anniversary sale, I do think it's smart to invest in items you know you will wear next season.
