How to Get Compliments on Vacation
Packing for a resort vacation should feel exciting, not overwhelming. Before you even unzip your suitcase, take a few minutes to research your destination — not just the weather, but the vibe. Check restaurant dress codes, planned excursions, and the type of shared spaces you’ll frequent.
When building your resort wardrobe, think about versatility AND your lifestyle. Far too often do I see clients with the cutest resort wear that they ONLY wear on vacation. If buying new, consider your destination (obviously) but also consider how you can wear an item at home too. It doesn't make sense to invest in items you'll only wear 1 week out of the year and you deserve to look cute at home too.
The goal isn’t to pack more — it’s to pack smarter. Start with versatile swimwear that can double as a bodysuit under wide-leg trousers or a wrap skirt for a poolside lunch. Layer in breathable fabrics like linen, cotton voile, and silk blends that resist wrinkles and move effortlessly in an ocean breeze and feel luxe. A polished sandal, a chic flat, and one evening shoe are typically all you should need. Add oversized sunglasses, a structured straw tote (I own this one and am obsessed), and all the jewelry to elevate even the simplest kaftan or matching set. I love a statement piece that feels specific to the location like a pair of shell statement earrings.
Finally, edit with purpose. Every piece in your suitcase should work at least two ways and coordinate with others. Stick to a cohesive color palette so getting dressed feels effortless, even after a long travel day. Bring only the best of the best. Items that are subpar or make you feel bleh likely will never make it out of your suitcase, why bother bringing them (I'd argue why you even own them, but that's for another day). When you pack with strategy, you create space to fully enjoy the vacation instead of managing your wardrobe.
Have a trip coming up that brings overwhelm? Let me help you! When working with a client for an upcoming trip, we have a call to discuss the itinerary, vibe and travel plans. Sometimes I shop for new pieces, other times we work with what the client has. In the end, she is left with a fully styled lookbook detailed out by day so she knows exactly what to pack and what to wear. Contact me here if you're looking for some help :)
