How to Find the Best Jeans For Your Booty

How to Find the Best Jeans For Your Booty

Denim is always a hot topic for fall and this year is no exception. What was once originally designed as a durable fabric for coal miners during the California Gold rush, has now become a cornerstone of every woman's wardrobe. Designs have far surpassed your casual pair and the fabric has been given new life with its appearance in unique silhouettes, blazers, dresses, jumpsuits and even shoes. Finding the perfect pair of jeans can be a breeze with a few precise measurements and guided knowledge.

With a fabric measuring tape like this one, take the following measurements:

1. Rise - The distance from the crotch of your jeans to the top of the jean along the fly. The perfect rise is right under the smallest part of your waist. Women with a short torso will likely favor a mid-rise (9-10 in). While women with a long torso will favor a higher rise. Not all retailers have the same interpretation of ‘high rise’ or ‘mid rise’ so knowing the rise that fits your body will set you up for success.

2. Inseam - The distance from the crotch of the jean to the bottom of the leg along the inner seam. Knowing what inseam you need will ensure they are not too long or short. You should know your desired inseams when wearing flats and heels. When shopping online, the rise and inseam information is often provided in the details portion of the garment.

Outside of the rise and inseam, there are a few factors to consider:

3. Fabrication - Denim will either be 100% cotton (rigid) or have an elastane component (stretch). Women with curves will likely prefer a pair with some stretch to it to harmonize with their curves.

4. Whiskering and front facing pockets - These add width to the body, great for someone with narrow hips. The horizontal pockets or whiskers will draw the eye out, widening the hipline. This is particularly flattering on a woman who has a broader shoulder, creating the illusion of an hourglass silhouette. Women looking to minimize the hipline and midsection should avoid these.

5. Alterations - A tailor can hem jeans, take in any gapping in the back, even make a leg opening more narrow so if a jean is nearly perfect, don't give up on it.

6. Length - Knowing where your jeans should fall can be tricky, but keep this in mind: Wide and flare leg jeans should graze the ground whether you are wearing heels or flats. Be sure to choose an inseam that reflects your shoe. This might mean you purchase jeans in both a longer and a shorter inseam to account for how you intend to style them. Barrel and straight leg styles should hit around the ankle in flats or heels.

I often hear that women prefer to shop for jeans in stores because they can try them on. I'd argue that shopping online for denim is actually easier. Hear me out. If you already know your ideal rise and inseam you can target styles that match these figures. Seeing the jeans on the model can help to give you styling ideas and help to see how the jean fits. I recommend ordering a few pairs and trying them on in the comfort of your own home. Sure, the initial spend on your credit card is higher and having to mail them back can be annoying, but with this process I have successfully styled so many women in denim, often on the first try.

This week I've scoured the internet to bring you the best options in all of the current trending denim styles. Be sure to read through the comments under each look for additional styling and fit tips.
