From Take Your Daughter to Work Day to Live TV

From Take Your Daughter to Work Day to Live TV

This past Tuesday I was on Fox 29 talking fall trends and sweaters, and it was a full circle moment I will always remember.

Growing up, my dad worked at our local NBC station in upstate New York. I spent so much time there, seeing the set and learning all the ins and outs of live TV. I still remember attending Take Your Daughter to Work Day at the station.

Fast forward to college, and I wanted to be a news anchor. I admired Katie Couric on the Today Show and could see myself sitting under those bright lights too. But fear got the best of me. Fear that I’d never make it out of a local station to a national stage, and fear that I’d never have the success to rival Katie. I now know that was a limiting belief, but it’s those beliefs that led me to accounting. Because what could be more stable and safe than a career in accounting?!

I don’t regret that decision. I believe we are all on the path we were meant for, and mine led me to styling and to all of the women I get to work with.

So you can see why Tuesday was such a full circle moment. The night before, I was so stressed. The morning of, my stomach was in knots. But the second I sat in that chair with 90 seconds to go, the most overwhelming sense of calm came over me. I guess the Universe has other plans for me. Maybe under the bright lights is where I’m meant to be after all.
