NYFW Thoughts from a Stylist
If you follow me on social media, you know that last week I attended shows and events for NYFW. While I have many takeaways from the weekend, one of the consistent themes was the boldness women carried in their looks. I saw so many women pushing the boundaries through exaggerated silhouettes, unexpected pairings with extreme juxtaposition and a dedication to self expression. (You can shop my looks here.)
I think a lot of the art behind fashion has been lost in our 'be seen' and 'do it for the likes' culture. Fashion for me has always been a way to express myself and a way to give others some insight into who I am. It's been my armor on days I'm not feeling myself, pulling me out of a slump and catapulting me into confidence.
Before there was Pinterest, before there was Instagram, designing a fierce look came from natural talent. I am fortunate to possess that natural eye and skill, despite what my degree in accounting says about my forte. But now, with social media spamming us with what you should wear and how to style this or that, I think it has actually disconnected a lot of women from who they are. It has made a lot of women question the things they love and doubt their connection to their own personal style.
So I think where I'm going here is that personal style doesn't have to be Pinterest worthy and it definitely shouldn't be a replica of everyone else. Individuality fuels you and becomes what is unapologetically yours, ultimately boosting your confidence because you can't be confident and second guess yourself at the same time. This is exactly what I help my clients do over and over again.
If you're looking for a confidence boost and a taste of what's fresh for this season, I would love to have you next Sunday at my fall fashion event at Veronica Beard! There are 3 spots left!
This week, we're fueling that confidence with an edit from MyTheresa, rich with texture, color and silhouettes that push boundaries. Shop the confidence edit here.
